About Vonetta Young
Vonetta Young is a writer of memoir, personal essay, and short fiction. Her essays have appeared in Indiana Review, Barrelhouse, DASH, Lunch Ticket, and Catapult, among others. Her fiction has appeared in Cosmonauts Avenue, Gargoyle, and the anthology, Furious Gravity. She generally explores in her work complex family dynamics, the messy intersection of race and class in upwardly mobile Black families, and liberation and freedom. Her work has been nominated for Best of the Net and the Pushcart Prize.
Vonetta serves as Executive Editor for The Offing, as well as Insight (nonfiction) Editor. She previously served as Senior Fiction Editor for The Rumpus and Assistant Flash Editor for Hippocampus. She is an alumna of writing workshops at VONA/Voices, the VQR Writers Conference, Yale Writer’s Workshop, the Community of Writers, Bread Loaf Writers Conference, Tin House Winter Workshop, and the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop. Her work has also been supported by the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity and The Writer’s Colony at Dairy Hollow.
When Vonetta is not writing, she is making the world of private equity more equitable for women and people of color. She received a BA in English and an MBA in finance from Georgetown University.
